Hal Higdon's Marathon Training Plan
The 'Novice' version of Hal Higdon's Marathon Training Plans is the one I based my training on last time. His site is a great resource for distance runners of any level. He his one of the most senior authorities on distance running today so I guess he knows what he's talking about!
There is also a good article on his site called Preparing to run 26 miles 385 yards.

Hi there
I just found your site. I too am an out of shape thirty something training for the Paris marathon - my first.
I'm using The Non-runners Mrathon Trainer by Whitsett, Dolgener and Kole and just have to trust that it will get me to the finish line!
Hope you're going well as the weekend runs are getting longer.
I live in Philadelphia so have been doing a lot of runs of the treadmill as the weather has been brutal and the temptation to run faster than I can really handle leaves me with constant sore legs.
Good luck.
Cheers. Sharon

I have found two different marathon training plans for beginners. On is an 18 week program with Monday and Friday. The other program is listed on Runner's World and is a 16 week training program for beginners - with rest or cross train on Wednesday and Sunday and rest on Friday. Which is better for a first time marathoner who will be 60 this summer. I have been running for two years plus and have run quite a few 5K's at 30 min - some higher and one at 28. I have done 10K at 68 min. Just want some advice about which program to follow. Thanks.
